Six months after storm Alex devastated the valleys of Vésubie, Roya, Tinée, the Middle Var and Estéron, leaving behind 10 victims and a wounded territory, the President of the Departmental Council wanted to take stock of the situation.
After dealing with the emergency, supporting the victims, and recreating the minimum conditions for a return to normal life, the goal was to repair the damage to restore normality. The cost is very high (1 billion euros), and all the institutions have pledged to contribute.
Charles-Ange Ginésy takes a forward-looking perspective “The long time of reconstruction is ahead of us” and sets an objective “to rebuild territories where it will once again be good to live, and for a long time, in safety.” To succeed, a collective effort from local, national, and community institutions is required (the European Commission has released 60 million euros).
The President of the Departmental Council also recalled the visit to the field in the wake of the events by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and his commitment to a substantial contribution from the State.
In this review of the situation and the presentation of the reconstruction schedule, Charles-Ange Ginésy couldn’t help but make a few jabs at the occupant of the Élysée or at least his entourage: “The support of the State is indispensable. I now hope that it will not be much longer before it materializes. Significantly and, above all, tangibly”.
