Two weeks after the devastating passage of Storm Aline in the Alpes-Maritimes, the government recognizes the state of natural disaster for ten municipalities on November 3rd.

Last October 20th, the department was preparing for the arrival of Storm Aline, fear in their hearts three years after Storm Alex which claimed the lives of 18 people. This time, there is no human toll to report, however, there are significant material damages, especially in the Vésubie Valley.

Published on this November 3rd in the Official Journal, this decree is the first addressing requests from the affected towns for recognition of the state of natural disaster. Ten municipalities receive this recognition: Belvédère, Bonson, Breil-sur-Roya, Isola, Massoins, Roquebilière, Saint-Martin-Vésubie, Utelle, Valdeblore, and Venanson.

Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, praised on his Twitter account, “the reactivity of the French government”, on this recognition request which he had “immediately demanded from Gérald Darmanin”.

The affected parties now have 30 days, from this November 3rd, to submit an estimated statement of losses they have suffered to their insurance companies. This allows them to benefit from the special regime provided for this purpose.

“This recognition of the state of natural disaster two weeks after the storm demonstrates the State’s and the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes’ will to continue being present for our valleys and to act as quickly as possible to enable the affected municipalities and residents to return to normal life”, shared the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes.

The overall estimated cost of reconstruction work, according to the Alpes-Maritimes department, currently amounts to 40 million euros (31.1 million for Saint-Martin-Vésubie and 8.9 million euros for Roquebilière).
