A Mediterranean episode will affect the Côte d’Azur from the night of Monday, October 19 to Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Thunderstorms, sometimes heavy rainfall and wind gusts are expected in Nice and throughout the Alpes-Maritimes.
Weather conditions will deteriorate along the Azure Coast and in the hinterland. Météo France has placed the Alpes-Maritimes on yellow alert for thunderstorms for Tuesday, October 20. This deterioration is linked to the passage of depression Adam, which is expected to affect a large part of the Mediterranean basin.
In Nice, the first thunderstorms are expected from Tuesday midday. Thunderstorm activity should persist for much of the day, with a lull expected in the late afternoon. Showers will accompany this rainy episode, while wind gusts could reach 65 km/h in the Alpes-Maritimes capital.
Thunderstorms that will progress from west to east
All of the Alpes-Maritimes will be affected by this weather deterioration. According to Météo France forecasts, the first precipitation on Tuesday morning will mainly affect the Var. In the Alpes-Maritimes, rainfall should initially remain more localized, particularly in the western part of the department.
The situation is expected to evolve during the afternoon. The rain and thunderstorm sweep will progress from west to east, with more frequent and more intense precipitation. Wind gusts will also accompany the showers.
Météo France warns that « sometimes strong thunderstorms producing large rainfall amounts, locally potentially significant in a short period of time » are expected. Significant amounts of rain could thus fall on certain areas in a reduced timeframe.
Another resumption of showers is expected Tuesday evening and during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The return of sunshine is then expected on Wednesday, October 21, according to weather forecasts provided by Météo France.
