A nationwide strike will heavily disrupt public transportation this Thursday, June 5, 2025. No service will be provided on the Lignes d’Azur network.
Thursday, June 5, buses and trams will remain in the depot throughout the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur. The Lignes d’Azur traffic will be suspended from the start to the end of the day. This mobilization is part of a nationwide strike initiated by the CGT.
The announcement was made by Gaël Nofri, Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the Lignes d’Azur authority: “Due to a nationwide strike, no buses or trams will operate on Thursday, June 5, in the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur. The City of Nice is activating the surface parking fee waiver to support Niçois in their travels as much as possible.”
The day of protest originates from national demands. It aims especially for the repeal of the pension reform, salary increases, and job protection. In Nice, as elsewhere in France, demonstrations are planned.
The unions denounce a reform considered unjust, particularly for workers performing strenuous jobs, women, and the most vulnerable. The CGT directly links salary increases to the financing of the pension system. For them, better wealth sharing also involves a different distribution of contributions and profits.
“A portion of these profits must go back to those who produce the wealth,” indicates one of the messages relayed locally. The French Communist Party will also present, on June 5, a bill to reverse the pension reform.
This day of strike will occur on the eve of three days of free service on the Lignes d’Azur network, scheduled from June 6 to 8. A separate measure, decided in anticipation of the United Nations Conference on the Ocean, which will be held from June 9 to 13 in Nice.
In the meantime, residents are strongly advised to plan their travels for Thursday in advance.
