Student City Rankings: Nice Drops Out of the Top 10

Latest News

The magazine L’Etudiant, a reference in the sector, has published its annual 2016-7 ranking of university cities: Nice is in 15th position, whereas last year it was in the TOP 10.

This ranking takes into account five basic categories: attractiveness, education, student life, living environment, employment. These five categories are further divided into 15 criteria to create the most comprehensive evaluation possible.

The 42,000 students in Nice particularly suffer at the housing level (this is not new, but it’s worth highlighting the negative effects).

The major drawbacks that weighed the most negatively are the lack of educational offerings and the proportion of students compared to the total number of residents: in fact, Nice is not, and has never been, a student city. Its social structure is more comprised of retirees (1/3 of the residents in the department are over 65 years old).

Finally, we come to the strong point: the sunshine. With nearly 3000 hours per year, Nice competes strongly with its rivals.
