Nice will be the first city in France to host Agora-é (a student agora).
This initiative aims to combat exclusion and precariousness faced by students and provides the association Face 06 with a house located at 140 Boulevard de la Madeleine.
In this place, students encountering financial, social difficulties, etc., will find:
- A solidarity grocery store where a basket of essential food and hygiene products can be purchased for 7 euros instead of 57 euros;
- Counseling and psychological, legal, or social assistance;
- Information on everything related to employment, training, and professional integration…
Students will be able to rely on a network of student associations and partner organizations such as the Carrefour Foundation, Auchan Foundation, CROUS of Nice, MACIF Prevention, the Student Mutual Fund of Provence (MEP), the Food Bank 06, etc.
To realize this project as quickly as possible, the city of Nice is providing the association Face 06, the local project leader, with a fully renovated 102m² house at 140 Boulevard de la Madeleine.
Thomas Côte, former president of FACE 06, vice-president of the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis in charge of outreach, vice-president of the FAGE, and elected to the National Council of Higher Education and Research (CNESER), is leading this project in Nice with the support of the current president of FACE 06, who federates more than 40 student associations, Pierre Barone.
Implemented by students for students, this project is based on solidarity and sharing. It is not about welfare but true social reintegration and solidarity. Indeed, the benefiting student must commit, alongside their studies, to an associative, professional, or personal project.
FACE 06 will rent this house owned by the commune of Nice for 2,000 euros per year. After some renovations, the space is expected to open by mid-November 2011.
