Students: an opportunity to find accommodation in Nice

Latest News

This Saturday, June 14th, the first edition of “Find Your Roof” will take place, a meeting between students and housing professionals. The objective: to inform and assist young people in their search for housing as the school year approaches.

As summer approaches, many students embark on the search for accommodation for the university term. To meet this demand, the city of Nice is offering a new event: “Find Your Roof”. The first edition will take place on Saturday, June 14th, from 2 PM to 5 PM, at the Maison de l’ร‰tudiant, 5 avenue Franรงois Mitterrand. Admission is free.

This event is organized with several partners: FACE 06, AFEV, CLLAJ, API Provence, CAF, Action Logement, AGIS 06, the CROUS, as well as the cityโ€™s youth information and listening point, “Lโ€™Escale.” All will be present to inform young people about existing housing solutions, administrative procedures, possible aids, and offers for shared or individual rentals.

The principle is simple: bringing together all the relevant actors in one place to facilitate access to student housing. “Find Your Roof” will be held each month until September.

By 2027, the municipality plans more than 6,000 social rental student accommodations, compared to 5,200 today. An additional 1,300 accommodations will be added, divided between Nice, La Gaude, and Cagnes-sur-Mer.

An Offer That Adapts, Between Social Housing and Mixed Rental

To address the increase in the number of studentsโ€”currently more than 51,000 in the Metropolisโ€”the city has implemented several measures. Among them, mixed rental. This system, launched in 2021, allows an owner to rent their property for nine months to a student and then three months to a seasonal worker. In return, they receive authorization for a change of use to a furnished tourist accommodation.

This type of rental relies on an agreement signed between four parties: the student, the owner, the CROUS, and the city. It is intended for students receiving CAF benefits. This year, 150 young people were able to benefit from the system.

On June 3rd, Anthony Borrรฉ, first deputy mayor, highlighted the stakes. โ€œWe have gone from 25,000 students to over 51,000. Student housing is an absolute priorityโ€, he stated. According to him, mixed rental provides a solution to a dual constraint: housing students during the year and seasonal workers during the summer.

With “Find Your Roof,” Nice aims to strengthen awareness about these systems and facilitate the settlement of young people. The appointment is set for this Saturday at the Maison de l’ร‰tudiant.
