Yesterday afternoon, 9 students from the Château specialized school went on a school trip to the city hall of Nice.

azin.jpg “What is the purpose of politics?”, “what are the different services of the town hall?”, “for how long is the mayor elected?”, “when does he wear the tricolor sash?” … The council chamber of Nice’s city hall had the air of a classroom this afternoon.

For an hour, Sylvie Pietri, legal officer of civil status, and Lauriano Azinheirinha, deputy for Education and Youth of Nice’s city hall, answered the many questions of the 9 students from the Château specialized school, located at 23 rue Saint-Joseph. Acting as “teachers” for the occasion, they gladly engaged in the question-and-answer session.

While politics is a complex field, Sylvie Pietri and Lauriano Azinheirinha tried their best to make the meeting as interesting as possible for their young audience.

By using simple words and adapting to primary school students (from CE2 to CM2), they did their utmost to capture the students’ attention. A mission accomplished successfully, as the children were very attentive and very interested in the explanations provided by the two speakers. Continuously asking questions, they showed great curiosity and interest in politics.

After 60 minutes of a somewhat different lesson than usual, the students of the Château school are now very knowledgeable about municipal elections and the role of a mayor and his municipal council.
