The year has been particularly tough for the Azur socialists, with two defeats in 2015, in the departmental and regional elections. The time has come to heal the wounds and turn the page.
“Here, the left is weak…” said the federal secretary, Xavier Garcia, during his New Year’s wishes to the activists: “…especially when, instead of being united, it separates.”
The observation is self-evident, but how to proceed? The Greens seem trapped by their fanciful musings, the radical leftists have returned to primitive anti-system politics. The Radicals remain, but they too have become uneasy allies if one refers to the latest public debate via open letters.
It’s a situation that makes one want to bury their head in their hands, especially when facing the war machine of “Les Rรฉpublicains” who, election after election, capitalize on the useful anti-FN vote to secure all positions and equip themselves with heavy artillery.
It’s not easy to deal with this state of affairs which doesn’t only lead to intellectual laziness but, on the contrary, raises the bar increasingly high due to the power struggle between the two local right-wing leaders, Christian Estrosi and Eric Ciotti, and the territorial management by the various barons.
What remains for the socialists if not the strength of faith?
Xavier Garcia intends to be combative and calls on the activists… to work: “We must react and duplicate our commitment. The young must take their destiny into their own hands,” he affirmed, making some of the “oldies” present in the room cough.
Objective? To be a force of proposal in institutional bodies, particularly in two key sectors: transport and the environment.
Four new spokespersons will help him spread these good intentions: Fouza Ayoub, Chantal Epitalon, Yann Librati, and Josรฉ Garcia Abia.
At the regional level, the Territorial Council promised by Christian Estrosi could be the tool for this.
The path for the Socialist Party to regain its rightful place will be long and steep. It will require unwavering commitment and the ability to work in the long term.
Action number 1: passing the baton to the young?
