For its 13th edition, the Sports Caravan traveled throughout the summer to many towns in the department, from the coast to the mid and high regions, to introduce different sports to young people, especially those who do not always have the opportunity to engage in sports activities. This tour once again met with great success, attracting a record number of participants.

The Sports Caravan, an initiative set up by the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of the Alpes-Maritimes and supported by the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, allows children aged 4 to 16, supervised by educators, to initiate free of charge into around twenty sports activities, including athletics, handball, trampoline, basketball, and table tennis.

Many champions participated in the 13th edition of the Sports Caravan, such as Patrice Barattero (member of Team CG06), who was selected for the Sochi Paralympics in Parasnowboard in 2014, Jรฉrรดme Ardissone, World Champion in Full Contact, and Adeline May, World Champion in Savate French Boxing, who agreed to be wonderful ambassadors.

By traveling along the coast (covering 2,700 km in the Alpes-Maritimes for this year) but especially the high and mid regions, it enabled children aged 4 to 16, who do not always have access to sports practice, to initiate and engage in numerous activities for free.

Elements from the report of the 13th edition:

+ 21% increase in the number of activities offered by the Departmental Committees in 2014, totaling 21 sports disciplines: athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, Lyonnaise bowl, pรฉtanque, cycling, football, disabled sports, handball, field hockey, karate, rugby, water skiing, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, laser shooting, fencing, gymnastics, trampoline.

Qualified educators supervise the participants, and the presence of established athletes amplifies the enthusiasm generated by the event.

10 additional stages in 2014, totaling 27 stages for this 13th edition compared to 17 in 2013.

An exceptional coverage of the area from June 29 to August 29, with 11 stages in the high regions, 10 in the mid regions, and 6 dates in the coastal towns. Each stage is one day long with activities starting at 10 AM and ending at 4:30 PM.

And with 4,079 participants, it’s a new attendance record, an increase of more than 50% compared to 2013!

Participation in the Sports Caravan is constantly growing: 1,700 young people in 2011, 2,000 in 2012, 2,700 in 2013, and now 4,079 young people for the 2014 edition, each receiving an activity passport.

It is also satisfying to note that 82% of participants reside in the Alpes-Maritimes department, and among them, 56% are aged 4 to 8.
