With “LโรTร DANSE!“, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo take over the Salle Garnier of the Opรฉra de Monte-Carlo to offer the public a high-level summer program. Two programs compose the 2014 edition of this eagerly anticipated choreographic event.
If Jean-Christophe Maillot, as usual, has brought a lot of diversity, this program is characterized by the Director-Choreographer of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo’s intention to offer powerful and emotionally strong aesthetics in an exceptional setting.
From July 16 to 19, the dancers will perform three pieces in one evening that are as virtuosic as they are demanding. With “New Sleep” by William Forsythe, they will bring to life a choreography considered a stunning illustration of Forsythe’s work in the 1980s.
Marco Goecke will present a creation, “Sigh,” specifically designed for the company’s dancers. The physicality and energy required by his ballets make their interpretation complex and have made the Ballets de Monte-Carlo the preferred partner of this explosive artist. Finally, the company will perform “Petite Mort” by Jirรญ Kyliรกn, a masterpiece that has entered the history of dance and contributed to the consecration of the Czech artist.
From July 24 to 27, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo company will reprise “Chorรฉ” by Jean-Christophe Maillot. Praised at its creation in 2013, this piece explores the contrasting universe of American musicals and offers an emotional reflection on the place that dance can occupy in an increasingly irrational world.
By transposing this ballet from the grand stage of the Grimaldi Forum to the more intimate stage of the Opรฉra de Monte-Carlo, Jean-Christophe Maillot offers spectators a new interpretation of this rhythmic and inventive work. CHORร then grips the spectator at close range with scenes of rare intensity.
The scenography, costumes, and music form a perfect balance with the dance, offering a magnificent closure to this “รTร DANSE!” 2014.
