The trotting meeting in Cagnes-sur-Mer began this Friday and will close on August 23rd. The traditional summer event combines horse races, festivities, entertainment, and fireworks.
The place is beautiful. Just steps from the sea, the Cagnes-sur-Mer track hosts the summer trotting meeting featuring 19 events over seven weeks, in night (from 8 PM) or semi-night (from 4 PM to 8:30 PM) sessions.
“For us Cagnois trainers, it’s a luxury to be on site. The location is ideal for high-level racing,” explains Jean-Charles Féron, a trainer-driver based in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
Until August 23rd, the Côte d’Azur racecourse will host no less than 126 races with a total prize pool reaching €3,300,000. French, Italian, and Belgian trainers prepare their horses for weeks for this special event that is the Cagnes meeting.
But during these evenings, the spectacle will not only be on the track with the 6 to 7 horse races. Within the racecourse, dozens of activities take place designed for the whole family, young and old. “We want to link entertainment with sporting events. The goal is to offer an attractive show, which is why prices remain unchanged (free for those under 18, €4.5 for adults)” emphasizes François Forcioli-Conti, president of the Cagnes-sur-Mer Racing Society.
During these seven weeks, the racecourse will feature a carousel, ice-cream-candy-crêpe stands, inflatable structures, as well as traveling exhibitions.
The novelty of this summer is the presence of a new 50m² giant screen replacing the old one of about a dozen years. Highlights will include themed evenings that will spotlight regional towns (Villeneuve-Loubet, Grasse, Saint-Laurent-du-Var) with fireworks as the grand finale of these evenings.
