After the earthquake that occurred in Morocco on September 9, 2023, solidarity from the Côte d’Azur was mobilized, notably thanks to the association Maroc 06, led by Oussine Jamouli, and the département of Alpes-Maritimes, which provided a 300 square meter space.
“We wanted to feel useful”
The space located at 69 Boulevard de la Madeleine in Nice quickly received a wave of support from the Côte d’Azur residents. Warm clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, shoes, hygiene and medical products were collected by volunteers from the association. Bleuène, Julia, and Camilla are master’s law students and they joined the association Maison Maroc 06 following the earthquake. “We wanted to feel useful on our scale and we notice a wonderful surge of solidarity with quality donations,” declare the young women.
“An exceptional generosity”
The president of the Département of Alpes-Maritimes, Charles-Ange Ginesy, and the deputy of the first district of Alpes-Maritimes, Éric Ciotti, visited the site to witness this wave of solidarity. “We see very concretely the solidarity of the Côte d’Azur residents in these departmental premises made available to the Maison du Maroc 06, there has been a tremendous outpouring of the heart equal to the immense emotion stirred by the terrible earthquake that struck Morocco.” The département wishes to intensify its efforts by releasing an exceptional aid of €50,000 which will be voted on at the next assembly on October 6, 2023.
The president of the association Maison du Maroc 06 is pleasantly touched by this generosity. “In less than two weeks, the donations should be transported there. I want to thank all the Côte d’Azur residents who participated in this exceptional and extraordinary surge of generosity.”
