Survey: Residents of the Southern Region Strongly Attached to Their Territory

Latest News

According to an IFOP survey conducted for La Tribune Dimanche and CCI France, 91% of the inhabitants of the Sud Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur region declare themselves attached to their region. This result places the area in second position nationally, just behind Brittany. A mark of trust and regional identity also expressed through satisfaction with President Renaud Muselier.

The IFOP study, conducted in October 2025 among more than 4,000 people, provides an overview of the bond that the French maintain with their region. Eight out of ten French people say they are attached to their territory. In Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur, this rate reaches 91%, a figure well above the national average (80%). The South thus rises to the second rank, behind Brittany (93%) and ahead of Auvergne-Rhรดne-Alpes.

This result reflects a strong sense of belonging, nurtured by a strong regional identity. The inhabitants of the South emphasize the diversity of landscapes, the quality of life, local culture, and a deep attachment to their way of life. This rooting goes beyond the symbolic: it is accompanied by notable confidence in the action of the regional community.

The survey also shows that 60% of the inhabitants of the Sud Region perceive that the local economic situation is expanding. This figure, equivalent to the national average, remains inferior compared to regions like Brittany (85%) or Pays de la Loire.

A regional governance perceived as stable and effective

The same survey reveals that 61% of the inhabitants of Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur declare themselves satisfied with the actions of their regional president, Renaud Muselier. This rate places him among the highest-rated regional presidents in the country, behind Breton Loรฏg Chesnais-Girard (78%) and Norman Hervรฉ Morin (67%).

Renaud Muselier commends these results: “These results honor and commit us. They show that our method works! In a context often marked by distrust, the Sud Region remains a benchmark of stability, efficiency, and trust. We are hard at work to continue along this path!”

The regional president highlights a management style based on proximity and concrete action. Among the achievements cited, the Sud Region boasts a doubling of the number of trains, TER subscriptions reduced by 20%, an increase in foreign investments, the creation of 48,000 jobs in ten years, and two million trees planted since 2026. The area will also host the 2030 Winter Games, a symbol of its national and European influence.

These elements seem to nurture residents’ confidence, who associate their region with the stability and visibility of public action. The survey also highlights the Sud Region’s ability to capture and mobilize European funds to support its projects.

Local pride and cultural attachment

The attachment of the inhabitants goes beyond public policies. It also reflects a form of cultural and identity pride. The region is characterized by its traditions, gastronomy, and the richness of its landscapes. This heritage helps to strengthen the sense of belonging to a local community.

The Cรดte d’Azur, the Alps, and Provence: these are all territories that make up a varied yet coherent whole, harboring a recognized way of life. The inhabitants express a strong emotional connection to their environment, which they associate with natural beauty, local products, and a long regional history.

The IFOP survey finally reveals that the inhabitants of the South are particularly attached to their city or living area. In Nice, for example, 40% of working people wish to stay in the region, whereas only 5% of French people are ready to relocate for their career. This stability indicates a lasting relationship with the territory.

The regional identity in the South is lived daily. It is expressed through local festivals, markets, culinary traditions, and cultural events. In Nice, the exhibition “Nice, its past has a future”, presented at Villa Massรฉna, illustrates this desire to connect history and the present to better understand this sense of attachment.
