Sustainable Development and Social Cohesion: a Goal for the Future

Latest News

Integration is crucial for economic growth and social cohesion.

It is therefore essential to facilitate the integration of people on the margins of employability through targeted policies, notably by scaling up the RSA (active solidarity income).

Green growth is also an opportunity in terms of prospects and future jobs.

Furthermore, it is imperative to fight against poverty, which weighs on our economy and undermines social cohesion.

A few ways to move in the right direction:

Facilitate access to, retention in, and return to employment for those who are most distant from or at risk of losing it.

– Reduce territorial inequalities while respecting diversity.

To promote inclusion, it is necessary to reduce inequalities in access to fundamental rights and ensure a balance between territories in terms of public service and access to benefits. The territorialization of integration policies will continue at the most appropriate levels: the region and the department for resource planning, and employment areas for their implementation.

Anticipate the effects of demographic changes and develop intergenerational solidarity.

The increase in life expectancy, demographic aging, and the difficulties young people face in accessing employment call for a comprehensive reflection on intergenerational solidarity.

On one hand, young people must be supported in finding their place in society through various measures of employment and training assistance.

On the other hand, seniors should benefit from satisfactory working conditions and a sustainable pension system at retirement age.

Finally, personal services will be developed to better address dependency.

Promote the integration, including cultural integration, of migrant workers and their families.

Following the unanimous adoption of the European Immigration and Asylum Pact in October 2008, the 27 member states have set common goals and timelines based on three priorities: mastery of the host country’s language, knowledge and practice of the host country’s values, and access to employment.
