To see Tokyo, the Nice native will have to perform well at the French Championships next June in Chartres, needing to beat a time of 1:57.28 in the final.
Indeed, despite her victory in the 200m freestyle final with a time of 1:56.77 at the Camille Muffat Golden Tour in Marseille this Sunday, the Nice native was fourteen hundredths of a second short of the qualifying standard (1:56.63).
“There is inevitably a little frustration not to make the time, but I can hardly be disappointed: it’s the third time in four months that I’m swimming in 1:56. The heart of this year is the Games. The goal is to be strong there,” Charlotte Bonnet stated after her race in comments collected by AFP. “And even if I swim in 1:56 or 1:57 all year, if I do 1:54 on the big day, that’s what counts.”
