Charlotte Bonnet from Nice won the bronze medal in the mixed 4x50m medley relay with her French team teammates on Thursday evening in Copenhagen. This Friday, Fabrice Pellerin’s protégé will aim for gold in the premier distance event.
And with this, it makes five. Four years later, Charlotte Bonnet adds a line to her record in the European Short Course Championships. In a rather “folkloric,” yet certainly official relay, the mixed 4x50m medley, where men and women compete together in the pool, the French team shone. The quartet composed of Mélanie Hénique, Charlotte Bonnet, Jérémy Stravius, and Théo Bussière, set the best time in the morning heats but narrowly missed out on the title in the evening (four hundredths of a second from victory, one hundredth from second place).
Already five medals in short course
Charlotte Bonnet clinches a fifth European short course medal following the European title in Chartres in the mixed 4x50m freestyle, two silver medals in the 200m freestyle (2012 and 2013), and bronze in the 100m freestyle.
Gold in sight
At 22, the swimmer from Olympic Nice Natation can hope, this Friday evening in Copenhagen’s pool, to claim the first major title of her career. In the premier event, the 100m freestyle, which is not her strongest distance (she performs better in the 200m freestyle), Charlotte Bonnet clocked the best times in the heats (52.19 seconds) and the semifinals (51.71 seconds), with a French record as a bonus. Moreover, her main rival, Danish swimmer Pernille Blume, fell nearly four-tenths behind. However, a final is such a unique race, with its immense tension, where everything starts from scratch.
