Three victories, three personal records, and three qualifications for the World Championships in Kazan, Charlotte Bonnet is soaring through these French Championships. Midway through the championship, the Nice native has achieved a flawless performance and pays tribute in the best way to her “big sister” Camille Muffat.
Although Limoges is just a step towards the big event this summer, the World Championships in Kazan from August 2 to 9, Charlotte Bonnet has already succeeded here. In excellent shape since the beginning of the season at the Golden Lanes stages (Nice, Amiens, and Marseille), Fabrice Pellerin’s protégé has been continuously improving since her “failure” last summer at the European Championships in Berlin.
The 200 meters, a safe bet
It was her race, her day. This Thursday, the Nice native was ready for the 200 meters freestyle. Leading from start to finish, Charlotte Bonnet showed character to answer the comeback of Coralie Balmy. At the finish, the bronze medalist of the 4x200m relay in London clocked an exceptional time. With a time of 1’56”86, the second-best of her career, she takes the fourth world ranking and can dream of a medal in Kazan.
“I am very satisfied with the victory and the time. It was the toughest race. There is some fatigue due to lack of training in recent weeks. In the last 50m, I was with Camille, and it helped me a lot,” analyzes the triple French champion of 2015 on the website of the French Swimming Federation.
Breaststroke as “fun”
On Wednesday, Charlotte Bonnet confirmed her current good form with an easy victory in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1’08”34. In the process, she set a new personal record and secured another ticket to Russia. Although not her specialty distance, the Nice native makes no distinction and “wants to win everything.”
After the race, she told Eurosport’s microphone, “It’s cool, it’s a race that can be useful if they need me in the relays. I’m on track to win everything.”
