Table Tennis: Nice CPC Repeats Its Feat

Latest News

The Nice CPC once again created a sensation last night at the Raoul-Dufy hall by defeating Villeneuve-sur-Lot (4-2) for the second time this season, despite the latter being quite significantly superior on paper.

At the end of one of the most intense and spectacular matches of the season, the club from Nice thus maintains its historic unbeaten record against Villeneuve, an opponent with whom it has had friendly relations for a long time.

The evening could not have started better as the team of Olivier Maero and Cédric Rouleau led 3 games to 0 at the break. To get there, Hungarian David Zombori, Mexican Marcos Madrid, and especially Corsican Anthony Peretti all delivered performances against higher-ranked players in particularly hard-fought games.

Afterward, the victory took longer to take shape, as the Aquitaine team gradually caught up, thanks to the young Stéphane Ouaiche, who was very impressive with his distance game, and Bosnian Admir Duranspahic, who was very solid against Peretti. The weight of victory then rested on the shoulders of Marcos Madrid, who once again brought joy to the Nice CPC by winning a high-level match against Franco-Romanian Lucian Filimon.

In two weeks, the Azuréens will travel to Rouen, a club struggling at the end of the season with little at stake. On May 15, they will travel again to face Fontenay-sous-Bois in Ile-de-France.

They will finally return to their Raoul-Dufy hall on May 29 to host the French champion, Argentan, during the 18th and last day of the 2011-2012 season.
