The ceremony to thank the athletes who participated in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games took place yesterday at the Departmental Hotel.
“Vintage 2016” for athletes from the Alpes Maritimes. This region was well represented at this Olympiad, tallying 33 French athletes compared to 23 the previous year.
For this event, seven athletes gathered at the Departmental Hotel. Trampolinists, judokas, shooters, whether in disabled sports or able-bodied, came together on stage to be congratulated by Charles-Ange Ginésy, representing Eric Ciotti. He noted that “it is a foundational work that has been done and continues to be done with them.” These elite athletes can also count on the support of the department, “We want to go further with this Team 06,” which bodes well for the upcoming Tokyo Games.
Two shooters were particularly highlighted. The only athletes who managed to win a medal in individual sports. Alexis Raynaud, a rifle shooter, who climbed to the third step of the podium, and Jean Quiquampoix who was awarded a silver medal in Rio. Both received a medal as well as a participation check, presented by the Alpes Maritimes Department.
The other participants, who stayed off the podium, did not leave empty-handed; they were given a bag containing a small plaque.
