Tennis: A Linette-Witthoeft Final at the Cagnes Open

Latest News

Carina Witthoeft, who defeated her compatriot Tatjana Maria, will defend her title on Sunday in the final against the Polish Magda Linette, who, on her part, defeated Maryna Zanevska.

For the third consecutive time, Carina Witthoeft emerged victorious after conceding the first set.

In the semi-final, her start was once again quite complicated against Tatjana Maria and her tactical, defensive play. Struggling, especially against the drop shots of her elder, the number one seed conceded the first set (6-1).

Upon resuming, the 82nd-ranked player was able to adapt and find solutions to reverse the trend. After a long battle of 2 hours and 22 minutes, the young German eventually claimed victory, earning the right to defend her title in the final on Sunday.

The German will face the Polish Magda Linette. She too lost the first set to her opponent of the day, Maryna Zanevska, before making a comeback and securing the win.

The Ukrainian seemed hampered by shoulder pain on her left side, which notably led her to call the physio at the end of the first set. The world number 102 took advantage and won the next two sets without too much difficulty.
