Latest News

The Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, ranked 115th in the world, won the 20th edition of the Open de Cagnes-sur-Mer Alpes-Maritimes by defeating the Swiss player Jil Teichmann in the final in 2 sets: 6-3, 6-3.

She succeeds the Polish player Magda Linette.

In doubles, the Taipei-born players Kai-Chen Chang and Su-Wei Hsieh triumphed over the Romanian Raluca Olaru and the Czech Renata Voracova.

On the central court of the Pierre Sauvaigo Sports Park, the Swiss Jil Teichmann, who had beaten the German fourth seed Tatjana Maria in the second round, faced a player in great form, Beatriz Haddad Maia, who demonstrated a wide array of shots. With mistakes in the first set, Jil Teichmann was defeated after exchanges of very high intensity: 6-3, 6-3.

The two players had already faced each other in February 2016 in the second round of the ITF tournament in Sao Paulo. After a suspenseful match (6-3, 3-6, 7-5), the Swiss player had eventually won her duel.

Today, Beatriz Haddad Maia was able to take her revenge thanks to her consistency, timely changes of pace, and some shots as powerful as they were effective.

Of course, the winner did not hide her joy: ‘The Open de Cagnes-sur-Mer is a great tournament. Thank you all. And I promise to come back next year and speak French!’ she said.

Denis Anouilh, the director of the Open de Cagnes-sur-Mer Alpes-Maritimes, stated:
“I want to thank the players who thrilled us throughout the week. The audience was once again there to enjoy high-level matches. Now, I invite you to join us for the 21st edition!”
