Tennis: Diane Parry in the 2nd round in doubles

Latest News

This Tuesday afternoon, Niçoise Diane Parry was back on the courts of Roland-Garros to play doubles with Caroline Garcia. The match concluded with a victory for the French pair against the Japanese-Indonesian pair, Miyu Kato and Aldila Sutjiadi.

Twenty-four hours after her elimination in singles, Diane Parry returned to Roland Garros with one goal: to bounce back. Alongside Caroline Garcia, she stepped onto court No. 3 eager to perform well. For good reason, this is the last Roland-Garros for the Lyonnaise, former world No. 4, Caroline Garcia. And Diane wants to take her as far as possible.

In front, the Japanese-Indonesian pair, Miyu Kato, and Aldila Sutjiadi, seeded No. 16. This did not impress the Frenchwomen, who won in two sets and in 1H12, 6-4, 6-3.

1st set

Diane Parry started the match on serve and found herself (already) under pressure. Despite saving two break points, the Frenchwoman eventually lost her serve in a complicated game. Opposite, the Japanese Miyu Kato and the Indonesian Aldila Sutjiadi, seeded number 16, didn’t miss the opportunity and immediately consolidated the break. The Niçoise, still a bit tense, made a series of unforced errors and struggled to really get into her match. Caroline Garcia, more agile, tried to keep the ship afloat, but the Japanese-Indonesian pair maintained their advantage up to 3-2.

At that moment, the Niçoise and the Lyonnaise stepped up their game. Caroline Garcia took more risks on the return, Diane Parry found her stride, and the Frenchwomen broke back to level the score at 3 games each. But the improvement was short-lived: immediately after, they lost their serve again and let the seeded pair take the lead at 4-3. Far from being discouraged, the two French players responded with determination. They, in turn, broke the opponents’ serve to level the score at 4-4.

Boosted by a crowd that was on their side, Caroline Garcia and Diane Parry took the lead for the first time in the match, 5-4. Subsequently, the two Frenchwomen closed out the set, 6-4.

2nd set

The start of the set was thunderous for the Frenchwomen. The Niçoise shone on the return, the Lyonnaise dictated play from the back of the court, and the two French players quickly soared to 2-0. Subsequently, they continued with a perfectly controlled service game: they were already at 3-0, just three games away from victory. It seemed that the momentum was fully on their side.

But on the other side, Miyu Kato and Aldila Sutjiadi did not give up. The 16th seeded players closed the gap and came back to 3-1, taking advantage of a slight hesitation in the French game. Suddenly, as the domination seemed to be in place, the match became tense. Diane Parry and Caroline Garcia experienced a lapse, and were broken. The Japanese players returned to 3-2.

But the Frenchwomen did not doubt for long. They immediately broke the opponents’ serve again. At 4-2, the duo restarted the engine. The French players rolled until the end, not leaving the slightest opening. Diane Parry and Caroline Garcia won in two controlled sets, 6-4, 6-2, and advanced to the next round.
