In her second round at the German tournament in Hamburg, Diane Parry was up against the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska. A match that ended quickly…
After defeating Tara Wuerth in the first round of the WTA 250 in Hamburg, Germany, after a marathon match, Diane Parry wisely took advantage of two days of rest before returning to the courts. Just back in the top 100 this week (98th in the world), Diane Parry chose to return to clay after a good run on grass at Wimbledon. A transition that is not always easy or logical given that the upcoming events will be on hard courts.
Nevertheless, for this second round, the player from Nice faced the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (25 years old, 39th in the world). A match far from easy against the No. 2 seed of the tournament. The course of the match would indeed prove this.
Out of rhythm at the start of the match on her service games, Diane Parry immediately conceded a break. On the other side, Dayana Yastremska returned the ball better and moved her opponent well, who couldnโt find her rhythm. Despite a good first serve percentage, Diane Parry never managed to destabilize the Ukrainian and logically dropped the first set (6-1).
The match was slightly more contested in the second set. Although broken in her first service game, Diane Parry fought back and motivated herself. The player from the Cรดte d’Azur, more mobile, moved around her forehand and managed to place a few unstoppable down-the-line shots. It seemed like the match was reignited, especially as she managed to level the score at 1-1. However, the consistency and calm of Dayana Yastremska eventually made the difference. In the crucial moments, the seed accelerated, taking advantage of several wasted first serves by the Frenchwoman, regaining the advantage at (5-4). Imperious in the following service game, Dayana Yastremska won without trembling (6-1/6-4) in barely 1h22 of play.
Diane Parry exited quietly from Hamburg, visibly not in rhythm enough after the two-day break imposed by the tournament.
