Fiona Ferro, ranked 53rd in the world, won the FFT Elite Challenge in Nice on Saturday, the first semi-official tennis tournament since the professional circuit was halted in March, by defeating French number one Kristina Mladenovic (ranked 42nd).
The FFT Elite Challenge was organized by the French Federation to help the best French players regain a sense of competition after a four-month freeze of the professional circuit due to the pandemic, and in preparation for the resumption in August, including the American tour and the US Open.
