Tennis Open in Cagnes: Pauline Parmentier and Mathilde Johansson in the 2nd round

Latest News

Out of the 5 French players scheduled for this Tuesday, May 5th, only Pauline Parmentier and Mathilde Johansson secured their tickets to the second round. On the other hand, Ocรฉane Dodin, Virginie Razzano, and Fiona Ferro did not manage to do the same.
It is worth noting the qualification of Yulia Putintseva and the elimination of Shelby Rogers, the No. 2 seed.

The former finalists of the Open did not experience the same success this Tuesday. Maryna Zanevska, who reached the final stage of the tournament in 2013, was first defeated in two sets by the Dutch player Kiki Bertens (7-5 6-2).

Pauline Parmentier, a finalist in 2011, however, claimed victory with authority against the young Russian Elizaveta Kulichkova, ranked 111th in the world. Despite conceding a break at the beginning of the second set, the Northerner won 6-1 7-6.

In the French duel, it was Mathilde Johansson who came out on top against Virginie Razzano, continuing her journey in the tournament of which she is the ambassadress.

Late in the afternoon, the young Ocรฉane Dodin and Fiona Ferro could not do anything against, respectively, the Brit Johanna Konta (6-1 6-4) and the Russian Daria Gavrilova (6-3 6-2).

It’s noteworthy that the 2012 winner, Yulia Putintseva, easily qualified against the Slovak Kristina Kucova (6-1 6-1) and the defeat of Shelby Rogers against the Belgian Alyson Van Uytvanck, making the American the only seed of the tournament not to pass the first round.
