Late in the afternoon, the young Océane Dodin and Fiona Ferro could not do anything against, respectively, the Brit Johanna Konta (6-1 6-4) and the Russian Daria Gavrilova (6-3 6-2).
It’s noteworthy that the 2012 winner, Yulia Putintseva, easily qualified against the Slovak Kristina Kucova (6-1 6-1) and the defeat of Shelby Rogers against the Belgian Alyson Van Uytvanck, making the American the only seed of the tournament not to pass the first round.
