For the 22nd women’s tennis open in Cagnes-sur-Mer, the singles quarterfinals lived up to world rankings.
This Friday, the top-ranked players each won their respective matches. Two matches involving former winners of the Cagnes-sur-Mer Open were highly anticipated.
Timea Bacsinszky, the Swiss player (world No. 111 and former No. 9), seeded 4th and winner of the tournament in 2007, quickly won her match against her compatriot Conny Perrin (No. 144).
As for Maia Haddad, the Brazilian (world No. 123), seeded 7th and former winner of the tournament in 2017, she was eliminated by the Swiss S. Voegele (No. 107, 3rd seed of the tournament) in a three-set match ending with a tiebreak and two disputed points, very close to the lines, which seemed to unsettle her.
The semifinals, starting at 2:30 PM on Saturday, will pit C. Michale (USA, world No. 130) against T. Bacsinszky and S. Voegele against T. Babos, the Hungarian (No. 133).
From 12 PM on Sunday, you can attend an exhibition match of wheelchair tennis, followed by the singles and doubles finals.
