15 orchestras, 9 concerts, over 70 musicians. The Jazz Encounters in La Gaude will feature throughout the week of November 13th, the finest jazz musicians from the region. The event is free except for the weekend (ten euros entry). Advice for fans: reserve seats, as the concerts on Friday and Saturday are sold out.
More than an event, an institution. For ten years now, the So What association, represented among others by Alex Benvenuto, has been fighting to democratize the festival: “Thanks to the La Gaude town hall for the support they provide us, as well as to our sponsors: TSF (Jazz radio in the Alpes-Maritimes) … The goal of our association is to bring pleasure to the audience. To do this, we have to seek funding, otherwise the concerts wouldn’t be free. During the first festival, ten years ago, only ten musicians were present. The situation has greatly changed.”
Composed of two-thirds professionals, the La Gaude festival nonetheless allows young talents to discover themselves in front of an audience of connoisseurs. This is the case for the So What company, which trains several musicians each year. The goal of the festival is primarily to bring together the best jazzmen with roots in the region. Hence the sponsorship of Philips Barre (he lives in the Var.) Every year for ten years now, the event has grown to accommodate even more people. The 3000 spectator mark should once again be surpassed. Only one more thing to do…go to La Gaude.
