The collision between a regional train and a truck at Dramont cuts the line and severely disrupts traffic on the French Riviera. Traffic is expected to resume on Thursday morning.
Rail traffic is interrupted between Cannes and Saint-Raphaël after a collision between a Transdev regional train and a truck on Wednesday morning. This closure blocks the Marseille-Nice axis and causes a wave of cancellations between Nice and Cannes. Travelers have to cope with reduced service and longer travel times. Traffic will not resume until Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 7:45 AM at the level crossing in Dramont. The truck transporting mobile homes was partially on the tracks at the time of the impact, according to internal information from SNCF Network. The heavy vehicle caught fire at the moment of impact. The regional train, severely damaged, was evacuated in open country.
The closure between Cannes and Saint-Raphaël immediately creates a discontinuity for the entire line. In Nice, several trains are canceled or suspended for the day. Regional trains heading to Cannes can no longer run. TGV trains heading west are also affected. The platforms at Nice-Ville are filled with travelers waiting for information, while announcements of cancellations continue.
Passengers must rely on buses or the already congested roads during peak hours. Long-distance connections become uncertain. Commuting is highly disrupted.
SNCF Network indicates that no resumption is expected before the end of the day. The facilities in the area have been damaged and require technical intervention. Around forty firefighters are mobilized to secure the area.
Renaud Muselier spoke about this tragic event, describing it as “a very rare train accident” and noting that “the truck driver died” and that “no passengers or train crew members were injured.” He adds that “the South Region is particularly mobilized to assist travelers, restore traffic, and determine the precise circumstances of the accident.”
