The Communist Elected Officials of the Alpes-Maritimes react vehemently (verbally) to President Hollande’s announcement regarding the territorial reform that will be presented and voted on in Parliament.
Already, the new redistricting of the cantons had sent shivers down Jacques Victor’s spine: The one he is elected in changed boundaries … and thus the electorate. But the anticipated disappearance of the General Councils, even though its modalities remain fluid, is another severe blow for the communist elected officials.
And now, having embraced staunch opposition, the radical left’s elected officials no longer accept any decision made by the President, whatever it may be: In every case, we are against it!
A legitimate position, but one that the voters have not shown much appreciation for in the last electoral consultations.

Moreover, the removal of the general competence clause for departments (and regions) will prevent them from providing support, particularly to all associations involved in sports and culture, but also social action, as well as to municipalities for equipment expenses.
As for the disappearance of the General Councils, which is recognized for their essential role in solidarity and social action, it is admitted that “there can be no question of challenging these policies, nor the staff who implement them”! So where are the announced savings? Will the RSA scheme be cut? Will investment in middle schools and departmental roads be reduced? Will policies of solidarity towards people with disabilities and the elderly, who currently depend on the General Councils, be diminished? Where is “the constant concern for democracy, solidarity, and efficiency” that is claimed to justify such a socially regressive project? It is the complete opposite that is being put in place, and we intend to relentlessly fight this dismantling of our Republic.
