Mรฉtรฉo France has placed the Alpes-Maritimes department on orange alert for “Rain, flooding, and storms” today, Monday, October 4, from 1 PM this afternoon until 9 PM this evening.
The vigilance unit of the Nice Communal Command Post and the Metropolitan Coordination Post were activated this morning by the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi. As President of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis and Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโAzur Region, he wanted to start setting up this system from 7 AM. The Departmental Coordination Center was activated by the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes at 9:30 AM.
The services of the City of Nice and the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis are ready to act if necessary, across the entire department.

The city of Nice reminds residents of the safety instructions to be followed.
- It’s important to stay away from trees and rivers, and seek shelter in a solid building.
- Travel should be limited.
- It is crucial to stay updated with local news and thus remain informed in real-time about the situation.
- The city hall also advises against using cars and warns against entering basements.
- Exposed items to the wind should be secured, as well as those likely to be flooded.
- Finally, avoid using your phone or electrical appliances.
Heavy rain showers are expected, with accumulations between 40 and 60 mm in a short time, 80 to 120 mm over the event, as well as wind gusts of 80 to 100 km/h. The worst is anticipated between 3 PM and 6 PM.
Closure of Certain Places
The metropolis has therefore joined the city hall in deciding on certain measures.
- From noon, there is no need to go to the music kiosk vaccination center. Appointments are postponed to tomorrow.
- Parks and public gardens will no longer be accessible from 1 PM.
- At this same time, access to the coastal path and Nice beaches will be prohibited.
- All vendors and beach operators in Nice are invited to secure their tents and outdoor equipment.
- The Covid-19 testing stands of twenty-one pharmacies will be closed.
- Nurseries, schools, middle schools, and high schools will close at noon. The prefecture plans to organize school transportation so that students can return home safely.
- The trains connecting Nice to Marseille are suspended by SNCF from noon.
- Employees should leave work at noon and are urged by the prefect to return home.
- Finally, the “Smart Mobility Show” event scheduled to take place on the Quai des Etats-Unis halts its setup. In this risk area, barriers prevent pedestrians from approaching, to secure the location.
