From July 12 to 14 at Place de l’รglise in Saint-Jeannet
The International Accordion Meetings are celebrating their 10th anniversary! On this occasion, the village of Saint Jeannet will offer two exceptional concerts by Richard Galliano for his new project “Tangaria” on July 12th.
Richard Galliano is also the artistic director of the event.
The next day, it’s time for the Trio Regis Gizavo, originally from Madagascar, a prime example of the geographical universality of the accordion. Regulars of the festival will complete this lineup: Aude & Guy Giuliano, and Lucien Galliano for the traditional dance on July 14th.
The famous accordionist has taken the artistic direction of the festival for 4 years now. He has been a key figure in revealing the musical richness of the accordion in France, alongside artists who have shared his passion: Nougaro, Barbara, Chet Baker, Michel Portal, Philip Catherine, Michel Petrucciani… and of course, Astor Piazzolla.
But he always returns to his first loves, connected to his father, Lucien Galliano, who shares the festival bill: the popular dance. And as this instrument is indelibly associated in our country with the popular festivities of the national holiday, it is logically on July 14th, on the Place de l’รglise, that the 10th edition of the international festival will close!
While the accordion never had a major soloist, Richard Galliano managed to establish the idea that this instrument was worthy of standing alongside the saxophones and trumpets that are at the heart of Jazz. Inspired by his friend Astor Piazzolla, Richard Galliano allowed the accordion to shed its old-fashioned image, thanks to work on the 3-time rhythm, a different rhythmic conception, and a change in harmonies.
With exceptional versatility, he has the means to express himself in any musical context. “Les รtoiles de Nacre” have, since the beginning, aspired to reveal this iconic instrument in both its traditional and innovative aspects and from cultures around the world.
During these 3 days, each evening will start at 6:30 PM with free mini-concerts in the streets and terraces of Saint-Jeannet. These activities will be led by Guy Dropsit, an accordionist and musician familiar with all stages. Visitors will also be able to enjoy an instrument presentation offered by the company Accordรฉons Sud-Est.
At 8:30 PM, meet at the Place de lโEglise to enjoy the evening events…
