The 2018 edition of the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon was presented this Wednesday at the headquarters of the department in Nice.

“The start of the Marathon will be given on Sunday, November 4th at 8:00 am on the Promenade des Anglais. As of today, we already have more than 8000 registered participants,” said Pascal Thiriot, President of Azur Sport Organisation and co-organizer of the Alpes-Maritimes Marathon, who invited the press yesterday morning alongside Charles-Ange Ginesy – President of the Department, and Stéphane Diagana – former international champion and sponsor of the “à vos baskets” association, to the presentation of this eleventh edition of the Alpes-Maritimes Marathon.

The event will offer three race formats: individual, team relay of six, and the half marathon (in pairs).
The course remains unchanged, following the coastline and passing through the usual towns: Nice, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes/Juan-les-Pins, Vallauris Golfe-Juan, and Cannes.

“In ten years, the Alpes-Maritimes Marathon has managed to gather more than 100,000 marathoners. This event, ranked second among French marathons, has become internationally significant over time, with an increasing number of female participants in this competition,” declared Charles Ange Ginésy in front of a plethora of athletes, all wearing orange t-shirts. 2,000 similar t-shirts will be offered to local runners to mark the Department’s support for the UNESCO candidacy of the Mediterranean Alps.

1,600 volunteers will ensure the smooth running of the race under the watchful eye of the authorities, who will implement an exceptional security setup. 50,000 spectators are expected with local economic benefits estimated at 9.3 million euros. The objective: to combine sport and tourism. Runners from 56 different countries will be present.

For its 6th consecutive year, the Alpes-Maritimes Marathon has been awarded the French sports Agenda 21 label “Sustainable development, sport commits.”
