The 12th Monte-Carlo Film Festival is open!

The twelfth edition of the Monte-Carlo Comedy Film Festival has officially begun! Comedy, a unique and marginal genre in the cinematic society, is the result of the passion to make people laugh, “to share with the audience” a sentiment.

Comedy allows us to dream and sometimes to appreciate a country much more, such as Italy, when a director like Massimo Troisi floods us with laughter and smiles with his works.

The press conference that took place the day before yesterday kicked off the Festival with its creator Ezio Greggio accompanied by most of the jury members of this new edition.

A small talk-show by Markus Duffner, the selector of the 8 films in competition, revealing the typology of the various films.

This edition aims to be international and innovative, as this year, a new genre of comedy takes the stage in competition: dark humor, as well as a comedy punctuated with psychology in search of happiness. Furthermore, comedy inspired by Japanese manga will also be presented.

The jury members shared their passion and definition of what comedy is.

Peter Bogdanovich defines that “the audience’s smile immediately confirms success, which is not obvious with other films.” Everything plays out in the details and the perfection of the symbiosis between the actors and the director. Indeed, as he has stated: “one second is enough to make a difference.”

Comedy is a life choice, an integral part of a childhood rocked by cinema that led Claude Zidi and Yllka Mujo to become directors and screenwriters.

Also present was Maria Grazia Cucinotta, an Italian actress, producer, and director, who started her cinema career alongside Greggio in 1990 with the comedy Vacanze di Natale.
