The 13th edition of the Cinema and Video Meetings will open on Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Le Volume and continue until Sunday, November 20, at MUSEAAV and Mercury cinema, in Nice.
Four days to honor regional and independent production through an original format that we have become fond of: the super 8 film.
On the program, numerous short films, meetings with authors, music, carte blanche to partner associations, and the now-traditional cinema night from midnight to dawn.
The word of the president, Vincent Jourdan, on the inauguration day of the 2011 edition: “Only the outdated never falls out of fashion. A 13th edition under the sign of paradox. At the moment when the Cahiers du Cinéma announce the completion of the digital revolution and the end of film, Regard Indépendant invests in super 8. Fine, fragile, imperfect, unique, and playful film, its attraction is still very much alive, without easy nostalgia. More than thirty films this year for our super 8 shot-edited collection with a curious but not poorly chosen theme: Yes.
More than thirty films with their errors, their three-minute universes, their ideas. There will be some blurry shots, some dark shots, it’s not serious. It is living film stock. But nostalgia, none.”
More focused on encouraging creation, the event will open with a video and musical challenge, inviting local filmmakers to create a clip on a work of their choice.
Creation again, The Regard Indépendant association, organizer of this event, will present on this occasion its new collection of super 8 shot-edited films made on the theme Yes. This year, German filmmakers from Köln (Cologne, Germany), Barcelona (Spain), and Caen have been invited to join local creators. Around twenty films will be presented in the presence of the filmmakers. A jury will award some prizes in partnership with Kodak.
On this day’s program, an afternoon also dedicated to super 8 with the traditional selection of the English Straight 8, a program of short films by Rosette, in her presence, made in the 80s with the help of Éric Rohmer and his actors. A second program will allow discovering different facets of this format with films by Mehdi Benallal, Maxime Michel, and Michael Hers.
The objective of this event remains to allow the curious public to discover regional cinematographic production.
Four programs will allow discovering school films, workshop films, as well as several unreleased works by local professionals. We will also continue the programming of filmmakers dear to us with A toi qui va naître, the new feature film by Xavier Ladjoint and Chloé en amont the latest by Stéphane Coda.
The cinema night will satisfy our cinephile urges with short films offered by Héliotrope on the theme of genre cinema and two feature films: a collection of animated films by the great Bill Plympton and a cult film by Russ Meyer. This edition will continue to explore the interactions between images and music with two cine-concerts The blue Wind and Non! opening at Le Volume on Thursday night and at MUSEAAV on Friday night.
