It’s time for the 14th year! The 14th edition of the Cinema and Video Encounters will open on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at the Volume and will continue until Saturday, December 1 at the MUSEAAV and the Mercury cinema in Nice.

rencontres_cinema_nice.jpg Three days largely dedicated to regional and independent creation through an original format that Regard Indรฉpendant has become a fervent advocate of: the super 8 film.

The program includes numerous short films, thematic programs, meetings with the authors, music, and the highlight of the evening presenting the 2012 collection.

Resolutely focused on encouraging creation, the event will open with a program of musical and animated films in the Volume hall, accompanied by a concert by the group Les Laids and a first look at the English super 8 by Straight 8.

The aim of this event remains to allow curious audiences to discover regional cinematographic production. Friday will be devoted to several programs from regional directors with works by Guillaume Levil, Pauline Racine, Stรฉphane Coda, Elizabeth Vissio, Yannick Rolandeau, Philippe Frey, or Laurent Simonpoli. A section will be reserved for workshop projects in the school environment led by our friends from the association Hรฉliotrope. In the evening, the grand prize from the Un festival c’est trop court will be presented, the film Mรฉditerranรฉes by Olivier Py made from family super 8 films.

A must-have final bouquet of the event, the Regard Indรฉpendant association, organizer of this event, will present its new collection of super 8 films shot and edited on the theme โ€œForbiddenโ€ on Saturday evening.

This year will be very international. German, English, Estonian, Lithuanian, Japanese, and Norman filmmakers (from Caen in partnership with Raccord Normandie and Petite Marchande de Films) have been invited to join the region’s creators. 28 films will be presented in the presence of the directors who will discover their work live with the audience. A jury will award several prizes in partnership with Kodak.

Also on the program for this Saturday, an afternoon also dedicated to super 8 with a second selection of English Straight 8, a carte blanche to the Cambridge super 8 festival, a program of short films by German director Jan Peters, in his presence, and a manifesto film: Super 8 is not dead. It is still throbbing by Rรฉmi Lange.
