The 16th edition of the Dictada Occitana in Nice will take place this Saturday, January 20 at 1:30 PM at the Palais des Rois de Sardaigne.
The author is none other than Cristòu Daurore (born in 1975), a professor of Nissart-Occitan at Sasserno and a facilitator at the ATE Asylum Seekers Reception Center.
The aim of this initiative is to restore the prestige of the Nissart language, which is better known for its oral tradition than its written form.
The Dictada Occitana (Occitan Dictation) was created in Castres in 1998 and in Nice in 2003. This year, it will take place in 38 towns across Occitanie.
The copies will be corrected by three teachers: Laurenç Revest (Ph.D. in Occitan), Ciril Joanin (Occitan Language Proficiency Diploma), and Cristòu Daurore (Bachelor’s in Occitan).
The text of the dictation will allow anyone who knows a little of the language to try writing it; all orthographies are accepted.
There will be four categories of texts:
1) For children: 31 words,
2) For middle school students: 66 words,
3) For high school students: 115 words,
4) For adults: 152 words.
