The 16th Monte-Carlo Comedy Film Festival has begun.

Until March 9th, the iconic Grimaldi Forum in Monaco will host the 16th edition of the Monte-Carlo Film Festival dedicated to comedy.

This year, the festival particularly focuses on the romantic comedy genre with an eclectic and refreshing selection of feature films. The program of this new edition was announced at the press conference held at the prestigious Fairmont Hotel in Monte-Carlo. Ezio Greggio, the festival’s President, was present alongside Serbian director Emir Kusturica, who chairs the jury. French actress Mathilda May and Italian icon Sandra Milo, both jury members, also participated in the MCFF’s opening.

The program includes films of very different textures like โ€œThe Mystery of Henry Pickโ€ by Rรฉmi Bezanรงon with Fabrice Luchini and Camille Cottin, โ€œThe Story of a Summer Loveโ€ by Paul Negoescu, or the Belgian film โ€œEmma Peetersโ€ by Nicole Paolo. Each work, in its own way, is a comedy sometimes dealing with serious and deep subjects but always with a tone we can imagine as comical. This is perhaps a great strength of this genre that is sometimes worn and convoluted, needing to find a second wind. Seriousness can, with a certain elegance, be adorned with humor.

In addition to the eight films in competition, other activities are planned. On Friday, March 8th, a Masterclass “Comedy Talks: Yesterday’s Comedy vs. Today’s Comedy” will be organized, featuring director Carlo Verdone, writer Paolo Genovese, and Salvatore Esposito, known from the series “Gomorra”.

A gala evening will close the festival on Saturday, March 9th, where attendees can witness the awards ceremony with numerous guests from the cinematic and television worlds.
