The 17th Cinema and Video Meetings in Nice

Latest News

The 17th edition of the Cinema and Video Meetings will take place from Wednesday, November 25 to Saturday, November 28 at three cultural venues in Nice: the Volume hall, the Mercury cinema, and for the first time, the Francis Gag Theater.

As usual, the four days of the Meetings will be dedicated to regional cinematographic creation. A selection of student films, workshop films, and short films by regional filmmakers will be offered, including animations, fictions, documentaries, and experimental films. Many filmmakers will be present to answer questions from the public.

This 2015 edition promises to be special as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Super 8 this year. It was indeed in 1965 that Kodak launched this light and affordable film format that would experience tremendous success. An amateur format, certainly, that would appeal to families and travelers, but which would also allow many budding filmmakers to have their first experiences.

It would also be adopted by many artists, mavericks, independents, and activists before video and then digital technology reshuffled the deck.

For over ten years, the association Regard Indépendant has structured its work of promoting independent creation around the use of Super 8, out of taste, out of pleasure.

Eleven collections, over one hundred and twenty films have been made by about a hundred filmmakers.
