September stretches out its last days, the colchicums are blooming in the meadows, it’s the end of summer. This period has coincided since 2002 with the operetta festival in Nice.
Let’s hear from Melcha Coder: “In March 2002, on a bet, I was asked to create an operetta festival. Thus, the operetta festival was created, and this year we are celebrating its 17th anniversary.”
The bet is won, madam!
This year’s program will take us through operetta and musical comedy. Some, without much error, compare the two disciplines. We might say, forgive us if we offend the purists: the operetta is a spoken opera and the musical comedy a sung film.
So, starting on Saturday, September 29, with the opening of the festival, My Fair Lady will be performed at the Nice opera house. The grand auditorium of the Nice conservatory will welcome Offenbach and his mad intoxication, intoxication of music, of dance. With a bit of imagination, we will relive the glitter and sparkle of the Second Empire; Hortense Schneider is not far, follow the Duke of Morny, he knows the way! Then in November, it’s Strauss’s turn with Vienna Waltzes. The music relocates.
The Mediterranean University Center with Paris Champagne, an initiative by Melcha Coder, will open its amphitheater, usually dedicated to conferences, to music, to Paris, the capital of lights of the Roaring Twenties! In 2019, The Hot Nights of Broadway will resonate at the grand auditorium of the Nice conservatory, with ballet and tap dancing.
One can understand, this edition of the operetta and musical comedy festival is preparing shows filled with light, happiness, in short, all the ingredients for an unforgettable afternoon or evening on the stages of the opera house, the conservatory, and the Mediterranean University Center.
