This international exhibition is the 17th organized by the Aviculture Society of the Côte d’Azur and will be held in Grasse on October 25, 26, and 27. For the pleasure of the eyes, the roughly 10,000 visitors will be able to admire over three days more than 2,000 magnificent and uncommon animals!

grasse_avicole.jpg According to Jean Michel PAULIN, President of the SACA*: “this event has, within a few years, become one of the major events in the Alpes Maritimes. It has even been ranked as the 12th largest event on the Côte d’Azur and the second largest in Grasse!”

The animals presented are all of purebred; they represent the major regions of our country, but also a few neighboring countries (Germany, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, England) and are the subject of a genuine “Beauty Contest,” better known by breeders as the Aviculture Competition.

This contest determines the best specimens according to predefined criteria, including color, morphology, silhouette, size, and weight.

But above all, at a time when we talk about GMOs, genetic manipulation, or other unnatural modifications, it is important to note that the breeds presented are natural and that the very purpose of this Association is to ensure the conservation of this exceptional genetic heritage…

These characteristics are described in a “standard” established by the highest avicultural authorities. Using this standard, accredited judges compare animals of the same breed to reward the most beautiful specimen (the one that best matches the breed’s characteristics).

Thus, the occasion will be given to admire animals that have all been evaluated, some of which will be awarded the highest prizes: Distinguished Awards, Grand Distinguished Awards, or even the Grand Exhibition Award…

For this competition, the exhibition organizers bring in the best breeders and the most beautiful barnyard animals for the visitors’ enjoyment.

The breeders are passionate about barnyard animals and primarily work on conserving the different breeds to preserve this exceptional genetic heritage. The animals presented come from amateur breeders all over France.

Finally, as every year, some animals will be offered for sale to ensure the continuity of this breeding: it will thus be possible for visitors to acquire some specimens, a prelude to great joy provided by these magnificent animals…

For the educational and cultural aspect, the organizers will set up information panels on the presented animals and answer the public’s questions…

Many stands will also be present, allowing visitors to find local products as well as equipment adapted to breeding.
