The 19th edition of the Women in Gold in Nice

After 17 years in Courchevel and a special edition at the Wagram Hall in Paris last year, the 19th edition of Femmes en Or will be held in Nice for the first time from September 16 to 18. It is organized jointly by the City of Nice, Havas Sport & Entertainment, and its creator Jean-Louis Sevez.

femmes-en-or.jpgThe goal? To celebrate exceptional women, each of whom, in her field, contributes to enhancing the role and place of women. Each year, the Trophies highlight journeys, strong stories, and commitments. They celebrate success and help reveal talents. 11 Trophies will be awarded to the Jury’s winners in different categories: Woman of Art, Woman of Business, Woman of Environment, Woman of Accomplishment, Woman of Francophonie, Woman of Innovation, Woman of Media, Woman of Revelation of the Year, Woman of Show, Woman of Style, and Woman of Heart (in 2010 it was Madame Bernadette Chirac).

A purely marketing event

The presence of numerous sponsors gives the event a “marketing” cliché, and beyond the good words, this event remains event communication. This choice by the municipality (and the financial contribution that goes with it) will certainly be the object of the most fervent criticisms from Christian Estrosi’s opponents, especially considering the current highly bleak economic and social climate.

One might say that this expense could have had other more useful destinations for the community. In fact, while one might not agree with the Mayor of Nice when he states, “the evolution of society in favor of women is undeniable, but what remains to be accomplished is still significant,” it is somewhat difficult to understand why this path must pass through lavish evenings like these.

The matter is considerably more serious! There is nothing wrong with balancing the complexity of life with populism and “celebrity culture.” It simply comes down to knowing what we’re talking about: “working clothes during the week and formal attire on Sundays” is an expression that retains all its truth in applications like this.

Christian Estrosi will not waver from his convictions. Why should he? He could also say that his reason is not a fault: “I wanted this event because our event policy must be the signature of Nice’s value in the international tourism market.

Everyone has their strengths and characteristics. Let’s not forget that our city is the second tourist destination in France after Paris.

“I stand by this choice which, in my eyes, is synonymous with excellence and prestige and ensures an economic dynamic that benefits our entrepreneurs and citizens,” concludes the deputy mayor of Nice.
