The first European festival of documentary films on women’s sports is an event showcasing audiovisual works that contribute to better visibility of women’s sports to the general public.
For three days, the festival was marked by the screening of films on the theme of women’s sports, with an exclusive content offered by the Olympic Channel at the opening and the premiere of excerpts from the documentary “Les Incorrectes” about the journey of Alice Milliat at the closing.
10 documentaries and short formats, some of which are part of projects labeled by the Alice Milliat Foundation*, were screened.
The jury, chaired by the director Guillaume Priou, awarded 4 major prizes: the Grand Prize Alice Milliat for best documentary to MAMIES FOOT, the best director award to EN TERRAIN LIBRE, the best cinematography award to A BOXER’S DREAM, and the jury’s favorite award to GAGNER DES CENTIMETRES.
According to the latest figures released in January 2021 by the Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel, women’s sports represent 18% of sports broadcasts on our screens. This is a significant increase compared to 7% in 2012, but the gap compared to men remains substantial. This underrepresentation of women’s sports has consequences, particularly on the economic development and professionalization of female athletes, but also on sports participation by women, who still face many stereotypes.
