The Education Award 2017 was presented yesterday afternoon in the presence of the rector of the Académie de Nice (Emmanuel Ethis) to Estelle Barla, a 1st-year M student at Guillaume Apollinaire High School in Nice. She received a check for 500 euros and a medal.
This afternoon at the Nice rectorate, several students were awarded prestigious prizes: the Education Award, as well as the award from the Regional Directorate of Youth, Sports and Social Cohesion, the regional council, the regional Olympic and sports committee…
It was in front of a sparse but warm audience that the representative of the rector of the Académie de Nice took the floor to deliver a speech of about fifteen minutes.
He reminded all present of the significance of the award ceremony. For him, as well as for the rector of the Académie de Nice, the institution advocates and embodies values such as responsibility, the ability to plan, and sociability through various activities. Students are expected, according to the rector, to contribute to what can be called a community or a collective. These are values that, according to the representative, should be honored and respected.
He then talked about the Education Award. He detailed the creation of the award period in 1975, initiated by the sports academy, aiming to promote personal achievement through sports.
Several other criteria could also have been added according to the representative of the rector: artistic and cultural aspects. These are two pillars that awaken and enable personal development as much as sports do.
He then thanked those present: the Olympic and Sports Committee of the Côte d’Azur, represented by its president Yvan Coste Maniere, the Regional Directorate of Sports and Social Cohesion (Joelle Demouges), as well as the UNSS, and the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Regional Council.
Finally, the awardee Estelle Barla was called up. She was applauded and thanked on behalf of the Académie de Nice. She is an outstanding student whose award perfectly epitomizes its spirit. He praised her career and engagements at the CLV, as well as on the board of her high school, emphasizing that her success is all the more spectacular given that she attends a disadvantaged high school.
Quickly, a photo was taken, followed by a second round of applause.
It’s the turn for the second awardee. Unfortunately absent, she was represented by her physical education and sports teachers and her coach from Cavigal. She was awarded a check for 300 euros for her award from the Regional Directorate of Youth, Sports and Social Cohesion. She also received the award from the regional Olympic and sports committee by Yvan Coste Maniere (the president of the CIO PACA) as well as from the National Union for School Sports.
A third round of applause ensued.
Finally, the representative of the rector spoke once more to salute Léo Gras and present him with the medal from the regional Olympic and sports committee. A medal received on this occasion by Léo Gras’s father (who was excused).
The ceremony ended with a group photo and then a buffet around 3:30 PM, the final opportunity for discussions before parting.
