Last night, the eleventh Sport Victory ceremony was held, honoring Nice athletes who were medalists from the benjamin to the veteran category. The patron of this edition was none other than the multiple swimming champion Charlotte Bonnet.
The men and women who make Nice a land of sports gathered at the Apollon Hall, Acropolis Palace. There were no less than 360 medalists with 156 French champion titles, 46 European medals, and 27 world medals. The year 2018 was very prolific for the people of the Côte d’Azur, who we hope will do even better in 2019.
The patron Charlotte Bonnet was not alone in handing out the trophies. She was accompanied by the 1998 World Champion and 2000 European Champion, and current coach of OGC Nice, Patrick Vieira. His young player Malang Sarr, a true product of Nice, supported her on stage.
We had the immense honor of welcoming the former sports journalist Gérard Holtz, who came to Nice to present his book “Les 100 histoires du sport au féminin” this afternoon at the CUM from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Christian Estrosi took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of sport and youth in his eyes and for the influence of the city of Nice. After hosting numerous matches of the French team during Euro 2016, Allianz Riviera will be the second most important stadium for the 2019 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in France this summer. Nice will host a group match for the French team, the round of 16, and the third-place final.
Here are our champions:
