A week after the Metropolitan Council, it was the turn of the Nice City Council to approve the initial budget of the metropolitan capital.
The exchange of words aligns with the intertwining of the two authorities where the boundaries are not the most impermeable.
In summary, the metropolitan and municipal majorities approved the proposals of Christian Estrosi and his finance officer Philippe Pradal, who both hold dual roles, and did not hesitate to show their satisfaction with the results achieved and the future projects in sight.
For the opposition members, who interpret the figures differently, the only option left was to criticize the content of the deliberations and the slight satisfaction of voting against them. The next municipal election campaign will give them the opportunity to present their vision of public financial management.
It is worth noting that the Metropolis and the City of Nice adhered in 2019 to the terms of the contract with the State concerning the control of operating costs.
Regarding the figures (2020):
Metropolitan budget: 1.462 billion euros, debt repayment capacity of 6.3 years at the end of 2020
Nice city budget: 720 million euros, debt repayment capacity of 6.1 years at the end of 2020
