One of the largest sporting events organized on the Côte d’Azur, the Ironman (42 km of running, 180 km of cycling, and 3.8 km of swimming), which brings together thousands of participants in Nice each year, is rescheduled for October (except if municipal elections fall on the same date).
3,000 participants have already registered since last autumn. “We know that a postponement means that half of the participants may not be available; they can transfer to other European events or to the 2021 edition. For now, we are in a waiting period, hoping that the virus diminishes. If we want to organize such events, borders must be reopened, as well as hotels, restaurants…” concludes Yves Cordier, the event director.
Good news for the racers: for the moment, the Nice triathlon (80 km of cycling, 1.9 km of swimming, and a half-marathon on the Promenade des Anglais) is still scheduled for September 13.
