Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the closure of schools, the 2020 Paul Langevin Literary Prize took on a new form to adapt to the constraints related to the health crisis.

Thus, in order to offer an alternative to middle school students, a writing contest, sponsored by the author Susie Morgenstern, was proposed with the following incipit: “I already felt old at 14…”.

The students were tasked with engaging in free writing over approximately ten pages. The texts were written individually or in groups by the middle school students and were subject to a vote to elect a winner in each category.

For this 1st edition, the jury selected:

(i) Individual writing category: Kilian Raholijaona from Henri Matisse Middle School in Nice with “Checkmate”

(ii) Collective writing category: Benasr Madelpech, Anna, Saรฏmi, Margot, Payen, Mandy from Pablo Picasso Middle School in Vallauris with “Intense Blue”.

A selection of books will be offered by the Alpes-Maritimes Department to each winner.
