The metropolitan assembly has voted on the 2022 budget marked by a historic level of investments to meet the demands of economic recovery.
A total of 440 million euros will be invested in numerous projects outlined by Christian Estrosi, who confirmed his commitment to ensuring that public spending becomes a key element in boosting economic activity and employment. Special attention will be given to the upper country municipalities affected by storm Alexis to improve their attractiveness, especially during the winter season, thereby avoiding negative demographic impacts.
Philippe Pradal, Vice-President in charge of finance, also announced that local taxation (property tax and rates) will remain unchanged, thanks to well-managed operations (payroll and operating expenses).
Favorable rates for outstanding debt recovery (1.70%) allow for debt control, all within the framework of the ecological transition.
As expected, the opposition criticized the presentation made by Christian Estrosi.
Ecologist Decoupigny pointed out the insufficiency of investments in social housing construction and the maintenance of agricultural spaces, compared to the grand plans of the President of the Metropolis, without, however, specifying which projects he was referring to.
For Philippe Vardon (RN), this deliberation reflects Christian Estrosi’s intention to make it a political act. Therefore, being himself? his group? his political adversaries for the presidential election, his choice to vote “against” was a consequence of this.
