Starting January 8, the winter sales arrive in Nice and the Alpes-Maritimes. For four weeks, consumers will be able to take advantage of progressive promotions both in stores and online.
The winter sales will begin this Wednesday, January 8 in Nice and throughout the Alpes-Maritimes. They will continue until Tuesday, February 4. For one month, stores will offer discounts in several stages, with four markdowns scheduled every Wednesday: January 8, 15, 22, and 29. This schedule also applies to online stores, in accordance with the current regulations.
For some, this period will be the chance to update their wardrobe or household appliances. Others will exchange disappointing Christmas gifts or finally make the purchase they have been waiting for.
Clear rules to protect buyers
The sales dates are regulated by law, according to Article L. 310-3 of the Commercial Code and a decree from 2019. All retailers, whether physical or digital, must adhere to these specific periods.
Consumers also enjoy important rights during sales. A discounted product must offer the same guarantees as a product sold at the normal price. This includes protections against hidden defects, non-compliance issues, and legal after-sale service guarantees.
“In the event of a defect, customers can request a refund or replacement,” reminds the Ministry of Economy. However, if the product is simply deemed unsuitable or disappointing without any defects, a refund or exchange depends on the seller’s commercial policy.
Finally, retailers must honor any mention concerning returns or exchanges displayed in-store or on receipts. Increased vigilance is thus advised to fully enjoy great deals while avoiding any complications.
With the first markdowns announced as early as tomorrow, shopping enthusiasts have a month to dive in. Crowds could be expected, especially in downtown areas and shopping malls, where storefronts are already preparing to display their promotions.
